ARTHUR JOHN TASSELL was born at Tonbridge on 12th September 1876, and received his early education locally.
In 1892 he began an apprenticeship at the Tonbridge Running Sheds of the South Eastern Railway, subsequently completing it at the Company's Ashford works and drawing-office.
In 1901 he was employed in the drawing-office of the Hyde Park Locomotive Works, Glasgow, and in the following year became chief locomotive draughtsman of the North Staffordshire Railway, Stoke-on-Trent.
This position he held until 1916, when be was appointed locomotive works manager, and subsequently was engaged in the production of munitions during the War.
His death took place at Stoke-on- Trent, on 16th December 1919, at the age of forty-three.
He became a Member of this Institution in 1919.
