"ARTHUR MORT was born in 1875 and served his apprentice ship with the Singer Manufacturing Company, Clydebank, from 1891 to 1896. After acting as plant draughtsman to Messrs. Babcock and Wilcox, Ltd., of Renfrew, and later at the dynamo works of Messrs. Siemens Brothers, Ltd., Woolwich, he was appointed, in 1900, works manager to the Stirling Boiler Company, Ltd., of Motherwell. This position he retained for nine years.
He was then employed by the British Welding Co in the same capacity before beginning in 1911 a connection with Messrs. Ruston, Proctor and Company, Ltd. (later Messrs. Ruston and Hornsby), of Lincoln, which lasted for fully thirty years. His first position was that of assistant works manager, which he held until 1919 when he was promoted to the important post of works manager, with control of some 4,000 employees. Mr. Mort had been a Member of the Institution since 1923. His death occurred at Lincoln on 28th September 1948."
