"ARTHUR WILLIAM CHARLES PARFITT, Wh.Ex., who was born in 1897, received his education at Portsmouth Technical School, where he won a Whitworth Exhibition, and served his apprenticeship in the mechanical engineering department of H.M. Dockyard, from 1911 to 1917. On the conclusion of two years' further service as a draughtsman, he was employed by the Clyno Engineering Company, Ltd., of Wolverhampton, for a brief period as a jig and tool designer. He then joined, as a technical assistant, the staff of Messrs. Marks and Clerk, consulting engineers and patent agents, of Lincoln's Inn Fields, with whom he remained until 1927. He became a technical assistant to Messrs. Haseltine Lake and Company, then gained experience as a chartered patent agent to the International Standard Electric Corporation. One year later he went into business on his own account as a consulting engineer and chartered patent agent. His services, which covered a wide range, were retained by various industrial concerns, including the United Glass Bottle Manufacturers Company, Ltd.; the Aluminium Plant and Vessel Company, Ltd.; and the Denver Equipment Co, mining engineers. He continued in this work until his death, which occurred on 11th March 1947. Mr. Parfitt was elected a Graduate of the Institution in 1920, and was transferred to Associate Membership in 1927."
