AUGUSTUS HENRY BURNAND was a sea-going engineer from 1898 to 1903, mainly on steam-yachts.

He had been apprenticed at the Dorset Ironfoundry, and in 1903 became a lecturer in mechanical, marine, and motor engineering at University College, Southampton.

From 1912 to 1916 he was technical manager for a Southampton firm of marine motor and motor-launch builders, and in the latter year joined the staff of Messrs. Boult, Wade and Tennant, patent agents, of London.

In 1918 he joined Mr. E. W. Walford, patent agent of Coventry, as technical assistant, with whom he remained until his death on 11th January 1928.

During his engineering career he contributed many articles to the technical press on marine and internal-combustion engineering subjects, and in 1912 he designed a reversing screw-propeller which was used by the British Admiralty.

Mr. Burnand became an Associate Member of the Institution in 1903.
