1941 The Ayr Engineering and Constructional Company Limited was registered, with capital of £10,000, to acquire and develop certain heritable subjects known as Victoria Bridge Engineering Works, Millbrae, Ayr.[1]

The company was a subsidiary of the London Graving Dock Co, who had been approached by the Admiralty to refit Ayr slipways and to use them for ship repair.[2]
