Bicalho Foundry (Porto)

From Graces Guide

of Porto, Portugal.

Fundição do Bicalho was founded in 1841 by David Hargreaves and John Eccles Martin. In 1849 the firm became bankrupt, and a new company was formed to operate the foundry. In 1856, Louis Ferreira de Sousa Cruz joined the management as secretary, and left some years later and used the knowledge and experience acquired in Bicalho Foundry to start his own foundry in 1864, which he called Fundição do Ouro.
