In 1919 the company succeeded the wartime Bleriot and Spad Engineering Company; also see Bleriot Ltd. The first aircraft they built was the high-wing ANEC-1 fitted with a Blackburne Tomtit modified motorcycle engine.

Chief designer was W. S. Shackleton who later joined William Beardmore and Co.
