1817 The Bristol Gas Light Co started supplying coal-gas for lighting the streets of Bristol. For a considerable time, there was great prejudice on the part of the residents in Clifton against the use of coal-gas but eventually this feeling passed away.
1855 Amalgamated with the Bristol and Clifton Gas Light Co under the title of the Bristol United Gaslight Company.
1891 Name reverted to "The Bristol Gas Company".
1927 The Gas Company purchased the Keynsham Gas Co Ltd.
Further opportunities to expand were declined when the company had talks about purchasing or amalgamating with the Portishead Gas Co (1928 and 1935), Yatton Gas Consumers' Co Ltd (1929) and the Clevedon Gas Co (1935).
1935 Marketed Parkinson Stove Co. Ltd., Sugg and New Geysers Ltd. gas appliances.[1]
1939 Marketed Ascot water heaters and Economic gas washing machines.[2]
1949 Nationalization of the gas industry.
