1911 Twenty-two British engineering firms took the initiative in organising the Association.
1912 The Association was incorporated on 26th April, with 61 firms taking part, to promote the interests of British manufacturing engineers abroad, especially in China.[2]

1916 John Thornycroft was Chairman of The Executive Committee.[4]
1916 Wilfred Stokes was President. [5]
1921-1922 Nevile G. Gwynne was President.[6]
1926 Mr David Alexander Bremner was director of the association.[7]
1942 David Alexander Bremner retired; Cecil Bentham was elected president
