CHARLES EDWARD LACY-HULBERT was the founder and managing director of Messrs. Lacy-Hulbert and Company, of Westminster, pneumatic engineers.
He was born in 1868, and commenced in 1884 a four years' pupilage in the Manchester and Glasgow works of Messrs. Sharp, Stewart and Company, Ltd.
From 1888 to 1893 he held the position of assistant works manager at the Atlas Works, Glasgow, after which he left for Belgium, where he went into business as inspecting and consulting engineer. He was employed by Lt.-Col. Western as sole representative and inspector for all material ordered in Belgium by the Egyptian Government, including numerous railway locomotives and rolling stock, and permanent way material.
He returned to England in 1901 and established the firm with which he was associated until his death, which occurred on 8th December 1934. The firm was turned into a limited liability company in 1903. Mr. Lacy-Hulbert was actively concerned in designing, manufacturing, and selling air compressors, vacuum plants, and other pneumatic apparatus. Under his supervision the company's works were established at Beddington, Surrey.
Mr. Lacy-Hulbert was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1897 and was transferred to Membership in 1906.
