of Cowley Bridge Works, Uxbridge.

Early 1950s Cape Asbestos Co started making a laminated board called Asbestolux, based on calcium silicate and asbestos. A large demand developed, requiring substantially increased capacity. Cape became the leading manufacturer in insulation board.

1967 Cape further expanded its interests in building and related materials by acquiring Universal Asbestos Manufacturing Co Ltd, a manufacturer of asbestos cement products and plastics, thereby entering the asbestos cement market for the first time.

1968 Cape formed a subsidiary Cape Universal Building Products Ltd to merge the operations of Universal with the production of Asbestolux.
