Claude Rippon (1866-1944)

1866 June 28th. Born in Tiverton

1904 'RIPPON, Claude, proprietor of the Oxford Times, and president of the Oxford Automobile Club. First drove a Panhard car, and now has an M.M.C. Is a warm exponent of motoring in his admirable newspaper, being one of the British editors who have been pioneers in promoting this great industry.' [1]

1911 Living at Springfield, Abingdon, Berks: Claude Rippon (age 44 born In Tiverton), Managing Director, newspaper Company. With his wife Belle Rippon (age 40 born USA) and their daughter Dorothy Rippon (age 7 born Oxford). Also his aunt Mary Land (age 83 born Exeter), Widow. Four servants.[2]
