1928 Merger of Continental AG with major companies of the German rubber industry to form Continental Gummi-Werke AG.

1933-45 Nazi-era in Germany

1951 In collaboration with Daimler-Benz and Porsche, Continental repeated its pre-war successes on the race track.

1955 Continental was the first company to develop air springs for trucks and buses.

Continental was the first German company to start manufacturing tubeless tires.

1960 Began mass production of radial tyres.

c.1985 integration of Semperit into the Continental Group which enabled the merger of the core competencies of two leading European manufacturers. [1]

1991. Continental, fighting off a take-over bid from Pirelli, merged the R&D activities of its Continental, Uniroyal and Semperit brands[2]

1995 Established the Automotive Systems division to intensify the systems business with the automotive industry.

1998 Acquired the Automotive Brake and Chassis unit of a globally active U.S. company, the core of which is Alfred Teves GmbH in Frankfurt am Main.

2004 Acquired Phoenix AG - merger of ContiTech and Phoenix led to the the world’s largest specialist for rubber and plastics technology.

2006 Acquired the automotive electronics business of Motorola, Inc., expanding its activities in telematics, among other fields.

2007 Acquired Siemens VDO Automotive AG to become one of the top five suppliers in the automotive industry worldwide. Acquired a majority interest in the Slovak company Continental Matador Rubber s.r.o.
