1930 Obituary[3]
The death occurred at Perth, Scotland, on Wednesday, of Mr. Cornelius Brittiffe Tully, the Chairman of the well-known Newark firm of Messrs. Tully, Sons and Co, Lossiemouth. Mr. Tully was visiting Scotland, on business, in the company of his son, Mr. A. V. Tully. He had a seizure on Saturday and was immediately removed to the Perth Royal Infirmary, where he later passed away.
Sixty-nine years of age, Mr. Tully came of a well-known family of gas engineers, having first served under his father Thomas Dominic Tully, at the old London Gas Company's Works. From there he went to Liverpool, where he was in charge of the carbonising department of the Athol Street Works.
After that he was appointed secretary and manager of the Sligo (Ireland) Gas Undertaking, offices he held for 18 years. During that period he carried out a scheme of reconstruction for the whole of the works, and also invented the system of gasification which now bears his name.
He was head of the firm, of Bale and Hardy, Ltd., and Tully Gas Plants Ltd. both of Newark, and for the last three years had been chairman of Messrs. Tully, Sons and Company, Ltd. He resided, at one time, at the White House, Carlton-on-Trent, but latterly had been living at Henley-on-Thames. For 23 years he had been prominently associated with the enormous developments that have taken place in high and low temperature gasification......He leaves a widow, seven sons and six daughters....
