Cunard White Star

From Graces Guide
1949.

1933 With the support of HM Treasury a plan was developed to absorb the assets of the Cunard Steamship Co and the Oceanic Steam Navigation Co into a new company[1]

1934 The Cunard company absorbed their principal competitor, the White Star Line, owners of the ill-fated RMS Titanic and the RMS Britannic. The company then became known as Cunard White Star Line[2].

Two large liners, RMS Queen Mary (1936) and RMS Queen Elizabeth (1940) were built with government help. Both played vital roles as troopships in the Second World War.

1934 the Government funded the creation of Cunard White Star Line on the basis that all of the White Star Line's Australian assets were sold to Shaw, Savill and Albion Co.

1934-46 Percy Elly Bates was the Chairman.

1950 renamed Cunard Line
