D. C. Kilpatrick, MA, Cost E, Member, was educated in mechanical engineering at Heriot-Watt College Edinburgh. After an apprenticeship he worked for 9 years in construction development at the Scottish Gas Board, SE Division. He started to specialise in project planning in 1961 when he joined Nuclear Design Constructions Ltd becoming head of planning in the Reactor Equipment Division.

Sizewell and Wylfa Head were nuclear power stations for which he developed planning techniques.

For 6 years he has been involved in project planning in the petro-chemical industries, currently being chief planning engineer for CJB (Projects) Ltd, part of Constructors John Brown Ltd group of companies. His responsibilities include planning engineering plants from the tender stage to completion of commissioning.
