Dalmellington Iron Co

c.1835 John Houldsworth, his brothers, and some friends of his family, established the Coltness and Dalmellington Ironworks, situated in Lanarkshire and Ayrshire

By 1860 the proprietors had fourteen blast furnaces in the two sites, capable of producing about 120,000 tons of pig iron annually.

1885 The company was registered on 28 May and owns freehold and leasehold properties in Ayrshire. [1]

1931 William Baird and Co’s Ayrshire coal interests were combined with those of the Dalmellington Iron Co in Ayrshire, to form Bairds and Dalmellington Ltd. The new company, 75 percent owned by William Baird and Co Ltd, controlled 70 percent of the Ayrshire coalfields.
