Darlington Power Station
Darlington Electricity Works, of Haughton Road, Darlington
1900 A coal-fired power station was opened on Haughton Road. It was sited beside the railway for the easy delivery of coal.
By 1923 the generating plant comprised both AC and DC machinery
1929 Selected for use in the North-East England Electricity Scheme[1]
1930s The station needed replacing, so a new station was built on the same site.
1940 The new station opened in May 1940. It had three large hyperboloid reinforced concrete cooling towers and three brick built chimneys. It had a generating capacity of 57 MW.
1971 the station had an installed capacity of 60 MW.
1976 The Central Electricity Generating Board closed the station.
