"They were founded by the late Edward Carr Deakin in the year 1850, and the firm is therefore one of the oldest established firms in the finishing trade.

Accustomed to deal with all kinds of cotton fabrics, of which the following are representative of the character and wide range of the materials regularly passing through their works, viz.: Cotton voiles, plain ground brocades, satin brocades, venetians, mattings, Bedford cords, plain and coloured vestings, plain and figured coat linings, satin checks, leno crossovers, plain and figured poplins, drills, florentines, imperials, cotton ducks, gaberdines in mercerised and schreinered effects of a large variety and description, also all kinds of 8/ 4 width goods for proofing and the macintosh trades.

In proof of the old establishment of the firm, they claim to have dyed and finished the first piece of cotton satin and the first piece of mercerised satin brought into Manchester, as they were also the pioneers of the trade motors running into Manchester".
