Dorman Engineering Co of Northampton.
c.1889 Formed as the Patents Manufacturing Co to use the patents of Horace Walter Dover and set up by Thomas Phipps Dorman.[1]
1889 Advertising for sewing machine adjusters. Dorman Co, Mayorhold.[2]
1893 Listed as Dorman Engineering Co, Mayorhold, Bicycle and Tricycle Repairers. Also listed is Dorman Sewing Machine and Engineering Co, Mayorhold.[3]
1900 January. 'Dorman Engineering Co. are getting a special set of their pattern Whirlwind Cycles and Motors ready for the Local Show'[4]
1901 October. Dorman Engineering Co, Mayorhold and 4 Sheep Street, Northampton.[5]
1902 Produced Whirlwind motorcycles, a few primitive machines that were typical of the era. The engine was hung from the downtube or within the frame. They had belt drive and were of basic construction. Also made D. E. C. engines.
Subsequently Horace Walter Dover left to form the Dover company
