A 10.25 mile line constructed as the first section of an alternative route from Edinburgh and Glasgow. It opened in 1849 and ran from the Edinburgh and Glasgow Railway near Ratho to the Wilsontown, Morningside and Coltness Railway. [1]

1869 The property of this company is leased to the North British Railway for 982 years.

1908 The line is 10.5 miles in length. [2]

1923 Became part of London and North Eastern Railway. [3]
