Professor Edward Frank Dalby Witchell, who was elected a Member of the Institution in 1920, was educated. at Aske's Hatcham School. He received his technical education at the City and Guilds College, and was awarded the degree of B.Sc. (London) in 1901.

He served an apprenticeship with the Great Northern Railway Locomotive Works, Doncaster, and from 1905 to 1907 was in charge of various courses at the City and Guilds College. In 1907 he was appointed Second Assistant in the Engineering Laboratories and in 1914 became Assistant Professor in Mechanical and Motive Power Engineering at the College.

His death occurred on 14th August 1956 in his seventy-sixth year.

Professor Edward Frank Dalby Witchell, who had been a Member of this Institution since 1920 and whose death occurred on 14th August 1956, was a Professor in the City and Guilds College, and on his retirement was appointed Emeritus Professor.

He served as Chairman of the Kent Education Committee, and was a Fellow of the City and Guilds of London Institute.
