Ernest Joseph Marriott (1864-1924)

Ernest Joseph Marriott was born in 1864, and first entered the automobile industry in 1895, when he joined the firm of Duncan and Suberbie in France. He then occupied the position of chief draughtsman with the Darracq Co, and subsequently was with the Clement Co in the same capacity.
He was then appointed chief works superintendent at Clement Talbot, where he remained until about 1908, when he took up a position with Thornycroft at Basingstoke.
In 1912 he went to Belgium, but on the outbreak of war he returned to this country and received an appointment with Vauxhall, where he remained until his death, which took place early in January, 1924, at the age of 61.
He was elected a Member of the Institution of Automobile Engineers in 1907.
