1881 Ernest Spon was appointed Engineer to the Explosives Co, for whom he designed and superintended the construction of new works at Pembrey, near Cardiff.

1883 The E. C. Powder Co was registered on 16 February, to acquire from the Explosives Co, the patents for the United Kingdom and India, for the manufacture of a new gunpowder for military and sporting purposes. [1]
