FREDERICK JOHN TAYLOR, O.B.E., was for some years on the committee of the South Wales Branch of the Institution. He was chairman and managing director of Messrs. Taylor and Sons, Briton Ferry, well known as manufacturers and repairers of tinplate machinery.
He was born at Neath in 1874 and received his technical education at Neath and Swansea Technical Colleges. He served his apprenticeship in the workshops and drawing office of Messrs. Taylor, Struve, Eaton and Price of Neath. This firm ultimately became Messrs. Taylor and Sons, of which Mr. Taylor became successively works manager and secretary, managing director, and chairman and managing director. The firm specializes in machinery for cleaning and preparing all classes of general metal work, and Mr. Taylor had travelled abroad considerably, superintending constructional work. He was awarded the O.B.E. for services during the War in the production of munitions.
He was elected a Member of the Institution in 1924, and his death occurred on 28th December 1932.
