1883 Born in Mansfield, son of William E. Stokes, iron founder, secretary of building society, employer[1]

1906-7 Vaughan and Son Ltd

1907-8 Richard Garrett and Sons Ltd as assistant works manager

1908 Joined Willans and Robinson

1911 Francis Stokes 27, mechanical engineer, sales branch, of a turbine and engine manufacturer, lived in Dunchurch, Rugby with Margaret Stokes 29[2]

1911 Head of the turbine estimating departments of Willans and Robinson; elected as Associate Member of the Inst Civil Engineers.

1917 Gained the first of 20+ patents, on casting machines, etc

1919 Patent on improvements in molds and chills with James Edgar Hurst, metallurgical chemist of Manchester and Stokes Castings Ltd of Union Foundry, Mansfield

1939 Francis William Stokes was Director-Engineers-Casting; lived in Mansfield with Margaret Stokes[3]

1940 Managing Director of Sheepbridge Stokes Centrifugal Castings Co

1944 F. W. Stokes joined the board of Sheepbridge Coal and Iron Co to improve the board's knowledge of the subsidiary Sheepbridge Stokes Centrifugal Castings[4]
