1851 Samuel Thornton 46, magistrate, merchant, lived in Deritend, Aston with Deborah Thornton 42, Falkland S Thornton 10, Ada E Thornton 7[2]

1864 Falkland Samuel Thornton, Messrs. Thornton, Merchants, Bradford Street, Birmingham.[3]

1865 Married Emma Rhoda Clayton in Warwick[4]

1872 Continued the business of James Thornton and Sons as sole partner.

1876 May 22nd. Died.[5] A merchant.

FALKLAND SAMUEL THORNTON was born in Birmingham on 16th February 1840, and on completing his education and taking an M.A. degree at Cambridge he joined the firm of Messrs. James Thornton and Sons, merchants.

He took a very active part in the success of the Birmingham Volunteers, being captain of No. 6 company.

His death took place on 22nd May 1876 in the 36th year of his age, from the results of an accident.

He became an Associate of the Institution in 1864.
