1964 Obituary [1]
Mr F. C. Tickell (Member), who died on 7th March aged 61, was educated at Waverley Grammar School and Birmingham Technical School.
After serving an apprenticeship with Wolseley Motors, he worked for Raybestos-Belaco Ltd and Small and Parkes for a number of years before becoming General Manager and a Director of R. T. Shelley Ltd in 1947. Ill health caused his retirement in 1958 and for the last five years of his life he acted as Midland representative for several firms.
Frank Tickell will long be remembered for his work as Hon. Secretary of the Birmingham Centre of the old I.A.E. and, since 1947, of the Automobile Division. He largely re-established the Centre after its suspension for two years at the beginning of the 1939-45 war. Ably assisted by his wife, he ran the popular dinner dances at the Botanical Gardens. He retired as Hon. Secretary in 1954 for health reasons but was able to serve as Centre Chairman from 1955-57.
His active and cheerful presence will be sadly missed by his colleagues and friends.
