"Lt.Colonel FREDERICK WILLIAM TURNER, whose death occurred on 24th January 1947, had been managing director since 1900 of Messrs. E. R. and F. Turner, Ltd., makers of flour milling machinery, of Ipswich, and had been identified with that firm for the whole of his professional career, including his apprenticeship from 1888 to 1892.
He was born in 1870 and educated at Ipswich School and in Germany. During the first four years of his long association with Messrs. Turner he was engaged on the erection of engines and flour milling plant in different parts of this country. He joined the Board in 1897.
During the war of 1914-18 he served with the 4th Battalion, Suffolk Regiment in France and was wounded. Colonel Turner took a keen interest in municipal affairs and served as Mayor of Ipswich during 1924-25. He was also a Justice of the Peace for twenty years. He was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1900 and was transferred to Membership in 1915. He was the author of a paper presented in 1926 on "Modem flour milling machinery"."
