1986 Following the 1985 Transport Act, deregulating the UK local bus market, Grampian Regional Transport Ltd was formed to own and manage Aberdeen council’s bus fleet.

1988 GRT Holdings plc was incorporated

1989 An employee and management buy-out of the company; Grampian Regional Transport Holdings became the first Scottish local authority bus fleet in private hands.

1990 Grampian Regional Transport (GRT) acquired Midland Scottish in an £8.5m deal.

1994 Renamed GRT Bus Group plc

1995 GRT was one of seven companies that accounted for approximately 60 per cent of the UK bus travel market. Four of these, including GRT, had Stock Exchange listings.[1]

1995 Badgerline Group plc and GRT Bus Group plc merged under FirstBus plc, the ultimate holding company of Badgerline Buses[2]
