There is now a large modern naval shipbuilding and engineering company at Kolkata - Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd, owned by the Government of India. The company's website says that the company was established as the River Steam Workshops by the River Steam Navigation Co in 1862 (Head Office 37 Mincing Lane, London) Despite the similarity of the name, these were presumably different yards[2]
