GEORGE ANDERSON WATT was the managing proprietor of Messrs. George Watt, Ltd., engineers, of Dublin, and had been the head of the firm for nearly thirty years. While serving his apprenticeship from 1883 to 1888 with the West End Engine Works Company, Ltd., Edinburgh, he attended the Heriot Watt College for technical instruction and subsequently gained further experience with various engineering firms in the Edinburgh district.

In 1890 he began his long association with Dublin and during the succeeding ten years filled positions as pattern maker and millwright with several firms, including Messrs. Guinness, Son and Company. After four years as outside foreman to Messrs. William Spence and Company, he was made outside manager. He continued in the service of the latter company until 1910 when he became a partner in Messrs. Watt Nelson and Company, Smithfield Engineering Works. Four years later Mr. Watt founded the firm of Messrs. George Watt and Company and continued as its proprietor until his death which occurred on 4th November 1942, in his seventy-fifth year. In addition, he was a director of Messrs. Tonge and Taggart, ironfounders. He was elected a Member of the Institution in 1922.
