George Dodds Perks (1864-1944)

1864 March 03rd. Born at Chapel House, City Road, London, the younger son of the Revd George Thomas Perks (1819-1877), president of the Wesleyan Conference in 1873, and his wife Mary nee Dodds. He was the younger brother of Robert William Perks (1849-1934).

1878-81 Educated at Kingswood School. He then qualified as a solicitor (in February 1891) and subsequently became a partner in his brother`s legal practice (Fowler, Perks and Co. of 9 Clements Lane, Lombard Street). With effect from 31 December 1900, H.H. Fowler and R.W. Perks retired from the partnership, with the practice continuing under the same title and at the same place, but with George Dodds Perks as the sole partner.[1]. In 1902 this legal practice was relocated to Hamilton House, Victoria Embankment. In 1908 it was relocated again, to Egypt House, 36 New Bond Street. From 1917 onwards this legal practice ceases to be recorded in the “Law List”.

1895b April 25th. Married Annie Winifred Jones, the third daughter of Edwin Jones (1833-1904) – who was a partner in the firm Bayliss, Jones and Bayliss. The report of the wedding in “Gentlewoman” of 11 may 1895 (page 48) included photographs of Both George Dodds Perks and his bride.

1906 Chairman of the International Cold Storage and Lairage Co (registered 9 July 1903 with authorized capital of 200,000 pounds).

1911 Trustee for the debenture holders in Bayliss, Jones and Bayliss; a director of Thomas Owen and Co; and a director of Ryburndale Paper Mills Co.[2]

1928 The prospectus of Aldwych House Estates Limited, dated 24 November 1928, cited him as the vice-chairman of that company (published in The Financial Times, 26 November 1928). This company had been registered 5 November 1927 to acquire Aldwych House from Agricultural General Engineers.

1930 George Dodds Perks, a solicitor who was the vice-chairman of AGE - Agricultural and General Engineers and chairman of Aveling and Porter

1943 When he retired as a director of Thomas Owen and Co Limited in September 1943, it was stated that he had been a director of that company for 35 years.

1944 September 11th. Died at Alwalton Hall near Peterborough, the residence of Frank Arthur Perkins (1889-1967). He had been a director of the diesel engine manufacturing company F. Perkins Limited of Queen Street, Peterborough, since the time that company was registered (7 June 1932). [3].

1974 Death of his wife Winifred aged 105.[4]
