1936 Died. 'MR. G. E. SAUNDERS, J.P. Death of Former Chairman of Sidmouth U.D.C. We regret to announce the death, which look place London Friday last, following an operation the previous day, of Mr George Edward Saunders, of the Faulkner Hotel, Sidmouth. Mr. Saunders, who was 65, was prominent and esteemed in the business life Exeter, in the public life of Sidmouth, and Masonic circles, and will be much missed. Third son of the late Mr. John launders, who lived at Howell-road, Exeter, and well known in the building and brickmaking trades, the deceased was born at Nottingham, from which town his father - with the other members of the family - later returned to his native county. The deceased made a special study of horticultural construction work, and heating engineering, and some thirty-five years ago was one or the founders of the firm of Saunders and Biss, Ltd., horticultural builders, of Sidwell-street, Exeter, from which he retired only a few months ago through ill-health. He married a Miss White, of Exmouth, and after some years' residence at Exton removed to Sidmouth fifteen years ago....'[1]
