"GEORGE ERNEST GORE held the important position of general manager at the engineering works of Messrs. Head, Wrightson and Company, Ltd., Thornaby-on-Tees, with control of about 2,500 employees.
He was born at Liverpool in 1881 and received his technical education at the Nautical and Technical Colleges in that city. After serving his apprenticeship with Messrs. Francis Morton and Company, Ltd., engineers, from 1898 to 1902, he continued with that firm for a further seven years, occupying successively the positions of draughtsman, superintendent of erection, and finally assistant works manager.
He was then appointed works manager to Messrs. Cochrane and Company, Ltd., ironfounders, of Middlesbrough, where he remained until 1919 when he began his long connection (lasting for nearly thirty years) with Messrs. Head, Wrightson and Company with the appointment of works manager. He became general manager in 1933 and held this position until his death, which occurred on 2nd July 1947. Mr. Gore was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1907 and was transferred to Membership in 1912."
