George Morland Hutton
Colonel George Morland Hutton C. B.,
Chairman of Ruston, Proctor and Co, of Lincoln, and a director of the Great Central Railway Company.
1834 Born
Held a lieutenant's commission in the 46th, served in the Crimea.
1856 G. M. Hutton of St Petersburg (same person?) patented improvements to the production of rifled cannon. Patented in Britain on his behalf by J. H. Johnson.[1]
On his retirement from the service, he entered the Lincolnshire Artillery Volunteers, and mainly in recognition of his services to the cause of volunteer artillery, in 1892 he was decorated with the order of the Companionship of the Bath.
1870 He married the daughter of Mr. Eustace Arkwright, of Chesterfield.
1877 He succeeded to the family estates, and became an excellent and popular landlord, taking a keen interest in the agricultural business of the county.
It is interesting to note that he was best man to Lord Roberts.
1901 Died suddenly at the Carlton Club. [2]
