George Turnbull (1809-1889) was the Chief Engineer of the East Indian Railway during the first phase of the construction. In 1893 his memoir was published and gives fascinating detail of a British Railway engineer working in India.

The book does not have an index and is not divided into chapters in the original version. The divisions shown here are ours and implemented to aid navigation, indexing and downloading.
