George Wilton Chambers (1812-1904)

His son Harry Polhill Chambers died 13 Oct 1919

George was born in London in 1812 and died in September 1904.

He came to Rotherham to manage his father's interest in a local colliery on Wortley Road. He was one of the first directors of the Sheffield and Rotherham Railway, as well as having shares in other local firms.

1904 Died. 'The death took place on Thursday Mr. George Wilton Chambers, J.P., D.L., of Clough House, Rotherham. Mr. Chambers was affectionately regarded as the grand old mam Rotherham. He was in his 93rd year, and was the of the firm of Messrs. George Wright and Co., Burton Weir, stove grate works, Rotherham. He was also the chairman the North Central Waggon Co., and only about a month ago presided at the half-yearly meeting. He was born in London and came to Rotherham in 1831. Together with Mrs, Chambers, who survives him, he celebrated has golden wedding in 1890, and diamond wadding in 1900.'[1]
