Glasgow and West of Scotland Technical College

1886 The College was formed by the merger of several older institutions including Anderson's College, the College of Science and Arts, which had started life as the Glasgow Mechanics Institute, the "Young" Chair of Technical Chemistry, founded in connection with Anderson 's College by its then president, Dr. James Young, Allan Glen's Institution and the Atkinson Institution.[1]

1903 Moved into new building, Mr. William R. Copland was the chairman of the institution; Mr. H. F. Stockdale was the secretary of the institution.

1912 Renamed as the Royal Technical College.

1913 Affiliated to the University of Glasgow

1964 Became part of the Strathclyde University on its formation.
