1836. Established by James Penny Nicholson with Daniel Simpson, a ship wright from Liverpool.

Graving dock opened in December 1840.

James and Daniel resigned in 1852 and his brother Matthew Nicholson took over.

1907 Shipbuilding ended when the yard was Nicholson and Sons
