Apprenticed with Joseph Whitworth and Co., of Manchester.
Engineer of a steamer in the Mediterranean,
Through the good offices of his uncle, he became private assistant to Edward James Harland at Hickson's yard.
c.1858 Invited by Harland to take charge of the drawing office in his yard, Edward James Harland and Company.
1862 Went into partnership with Edward James Harland as Harland and Wolff
Wolff did not marry and died a bachelor
