"HAROLD HOLMES WINSTON, whose death occurred in November 1948, was in the service of Messrs. Waterlow and Sons, Ltd., printers, London, for forty-two years. After a three years' course at the Polytechnic School of engineering he obtained his practical training at the works of Messrs. Alexander Wilson and Company, Ltd.
In 1891 he entered the drawing office of Messrs. Brins and Company, Ltd., hydraulic engineers, whom he left three years later to begin his long connection with Messrs. Waterlow and Sons, with the post of assistant engineer. He was promoted to be chief engineer in 1901 and held that appointment until his retirement in 1936. Mr. Winston's long association with the Institution dated back to 1896 when he was elected an Associate Member. He was transferred to Membership in 1903."
