1981 Francis Sumner planned to demerge its textiles business, which was quoted, forming a new company, Hartons Group, an industrial holding company, which would be unquoted[2]. Later listed on USM.

1982 Merger of 2 plastic distributors, subsidiaries of British Syphon Co and Hartons Group; the new firm would trade as Valiant or Visijar Tuckers[3] or even VT Group.

1984 Listed on main stock market. Planned to acquire Elson and Robbins[4]

1986 Sale of subsidiary DIP to United Gas Industries[5]

1995 Take-over bid from a Dutch company which already owned a large proportion of the shares[6]
