1861 Henry J West, an engineer's clerk, was lodging in Lambeth[1]

1866 Joseph H West married Catherine M. West in Chippenham[2]

1871 Joined I Mech E[3]

1871 Catherine M West 31, was living in Southwark, with her brother, Alfred West 25, Ernest H West 3, Augustus J West 11 Months but her husband was not at home[4]

1875 Patent by Henry Joseph West, of No. 40, Stockwell Park-road, and Grosvenor Calixte Joseph de Jacobi du Vallon, of Llancayo, Epsom, notice in respect of the invention of "improvements in skating rinks."[5]

1876 Dissolution of the Partnership between Henry Joseph West and Grosvenor Calixte Joseph de Jacobi du Vallon, carrying on business at the Atlas Works, Oozells Street, Birmingham, and at 17, Mason-street, Lambeth, as Refrigerating and General Engineers and Iron Founders, under the style or firm of West and Du Vallon, was dissolved by mutual consent. All debts owing to and by the said late firm will be received and paid by the said Grosvenor Calixte Joseph de Jacobi du Vallon, who will continue to carry on the business[6]

Presumably then set up business on his own account.

1881 Henry J. West 40, civil engineer, was living in Lambeth with Catherine M. West 40, Francis B. West 7[7]

1891 Henry J. West, mechanical engineer, living in Herne Hill, with Ernest H West 23, mechanical engineer, Catherine West 52, Ada A West 9, Catherine E West 28[8]

1896 Retired from H. J. West and Co

1901 Henry West 61, living on own means, living in Herne Hill with Catherine West 61, Ernest West 31, works manager of a refrigerating machine maker, Augusta West 19[9]
