Henry Smith Crump (1847-1927) of Crump

Born at Gloucester the son of William Crump, a Grocer.

1871 Married at Tewkesbury to Ann Martin Crump

1881 Living at 38 Worcester Street, Gloucester: Henry Smith Crump (age 34 born Gloucester), Iron Hurdle Manufacturer. With his wife, two sons and a daughter.[1]

1911 Living at Glencairn, London Road, Gloucester: Henry Crump (age 64 born Gloucester), Iron Tool and Fencing Manufacturer. With his wife Ann, one son and one daughter.[2]

1927 Died when knocked down by a motor car. 'Mr. Crump, who was well-known and highly respected in Gloucester, was born on March 21st, 1847, and educated at Browning's Commercial School, Weston, near Bath. He served five years' apprenticeship at Leicester, and was afterwards for two years with the firm of Messrs. Higgs and Jones, Liverpool. In 1869, he took over the old-established ironmonger, handmade horse-gate, nail and pig ring manufacturing business of Messrs. Kendall and Co., late Weyman, Tewkesbury, and machine-made goods superseding these products he started manufacturing cattle and sheep feeding appliances, and achieved considerable success. He removed in 1874 to Gloucester, and built up the well-known Alvin iron Works, which gained wide reputation for its iron buildings, etc. A few years ago Mr. Crump retired from business.'[3]
