c.1877 Born in Frome, son of William Smith, an engine fitter and turner[1].

1901 A gas engineer's draughtsman, lived in Frome with his parents[2]

1902 With William Ludlam Ramsden, also of Frome, gained a patent on "An Improved Arrangement for Working Gas Purifiers". He later gained 7 more British patents, including several on water gas. Presumably worked for Edward Cockey and Sons

1908 A civil engineer when he married Rose Ena Adelaide Duckett in Putney[3]

1911 Herbert E Smith 34, engineer and manager of gas plant manufacturer, lived in Putney with Rose Smith 26, Freda Smith 2, Doris Smith 0[4]

1939 Engineer and designer Gas Plant, retired, lived in Frome[5]

1950 Died in Wembley[6]
