Irvine Currie and Company, shipbuilders at Hartlepool 1864 - 1866
1864 Robert Irvine and Alexander Currie went into business together. Irvine had been a ship repairer, and Currie had worked for the nearby shipyards of Pile, Spence and Co. Their first ship was the Island Queen, built for the West Hartlepool Steam Navigation Company, which was owned by Pile, Spence and Co. They went on to build four more ships.
1866 The yard was temporarily closed while building work was done. The partnership ended at this time. Robert Irvine continued the business alone, under the name of R. Irvine and Co.
