THE LATE Mr. J. H. TOULMIN. - We record with regret the death, on July 12th, of Mr. J. H. Toulmin, a director of Leyland Motors, Ltd. Mr. Toulmin had been connected with Leyland activities for over fifty years. He was a director of James Sumner. Ltd., a Leyland firm engaged in the manufacture of steam lawnmowers, the forerunner of the Lancashire Steam Motor Company, which later became Leyland Motors, Ltd. He was also a director of T. Coulthard and Co., of Preston, whose steam wagon business was absorbed by the Leyland Company in 1907. He was appointed to the board of Leyland Motors, Ltd., in May, 1922, and two years later became chairman, which position he retained for eighteen years.
