James Edward Hardman (1858-1926), managing director of Garner, Telford and Hardman

1858 Born in Heywood, Lancs

Started working with Thomas Hill and Sons

1893 Commenced employment with William Brierly and Sons, Rochdale

1896 Appointed as Works Manager to Edwin Danks and Co, Oldbury, near Birmingham

1899 Made partner by Garner and Telford and the title of the firm then became Garner, Telford and Hardman.

He was also a member of the Manchester Association of Engineers and was a founder member of the Engineers Club.


1926 Obituary

'The death is announced of Mr J. E. Hardman, managing director of the well-know Manchester firm of Garner, Telford and Hardman, as having occurred on the 11th inst. at this home in Pendleton.

Mr Hardman was born in Heywood, Lancs., in 1858, and until 1893 was in the employment of Thomas Hill and Sons of that town. He severed his connection with this firm to become associated with William Brierly and Sons, Rochdale, but after about three years he was appointed works manager to Edwin Danks and Co, Oldbury, near Birmingham. In 1899 he was made a partner by Messrs. Garner and Telford, and the title of the firm became Garner, Telford and Hardman, and he remained the managing director until his death.

Mr Hardman leaves two sons, who are interested in the company. He was a member of the Manchester Association of Engineers and was a founder member of the Engineers Club.
