1848 James Hacking, the younger, soap manufacturer, mentioned in connection with the sale of 'valuable property at Enfield' near Accrington. 'To engravers to Calico Printers'.[1]

1851 Living at Black Lane Head, Clayton le Moors: James Hacking (age 30 born Clayton le Moors), Soap and Candle Manufacturer employing 8 person. With his wife Ann Hacking (age 31 born Twiston, Lancs.) and their three children; William Hy Hacking (age 6 born Clayton le Moors); Joshua Hacking (age 4 born Clayton le Moors); and Mary Elizabeth Hacking (age 1 born Clayton le Moors). Three servants.[2]
